Dr Manali Shilotri says “Minimal access surgery, also known as keyhole or laparoscopic surgery is called so, because in comparison to the traditional larger cut across the tummy, we perform surgeries through keyhole sized half to 1 cm cuts which require only single stitches each. As the cuts are significantly smaller, post-surgery pain is much lesser and the patient can be up and about on the same day. The other benefits to the patient are an earlier discharge from the hospital, a faster return to normal daily activities and diet, better cosmetic appearance and lesser chances of developing a hernia.”
